Recreation Ground

The Recreation Ground situated on The Street in Stedham, is shown above during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Fete on 5th June 2022, was gifted to the Parish Council by Annie Esther Chatterton, nee Scrimgeour, on 23rd June 1948.

It is run as a charity (No. 305428) and all members of the Parish Council are trustees. Details of the charity including the Annual Return can be seen on the Charity Website Link, by entering either “305428” or “Stedham Recreation Ground”:

Parish organisations are welcome to use the Ground for events which are for the benefit of the Parish, eg Fund Raising for a local organisation, Social events for local residents. Formal approval is given by the Parish Council so the application needs to be considered at a Parish Council meeting which occur the second Thursday of each month except August. Applications should be sent to the Clerk of the Parish Council.

There is a requirement to fill in a Risk Assessment form in advance of the event to ensure it can be covered by the Parish Council’s Public Liability insurance. Please contact the Clerk for a copy of the latest form.

There is a children’s play area in the Ground as well as a small shelter.

The allotments are next to the Common View Play area and also leased by SIPC from West Sussex County Council.

There are 10 allotments most of which are let out as half allotments. The charge per annum as from 29th September 2025 is £40 for a whole allotment and £20 for a half allotment. This price includes a water supply.

There are various rules and regulations governing allotments which are included in the  Allotment Tenancy Agreement.

Please contact the Clerk if you are interested in renting allotment land. Please be aware there is currently a waiting list, but your name will be added to the list on the date of your application. Also, because there is a significant demand for Allotments, plots are allocated on a priority basis, firstly to residents of Stedham, then residents of the Parish and lastly to applicants from outside the Parish.
